Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics

The Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics, from Feb 6th, are back in a European time zone for the first time in two decades. They’re the first ever Winter Games to be staged over two cities. Milan will host the Opening ceremony in the San Siro and ice skating and ice hockey, while 1956 hosts Cortina d'Ampezzo will have alpine skiing, curling and the ‘sliding’ events including Skeleton and Bobsleigh. Ski mountaineering makes its Olympic debut as a new sport while women's large hill ski jumping, women's doubles luge, and a mixed-team skeleton are all added to the 116 medal events! There will be 2,900 athletes participating, 1,538 of which are men and 1,362 are women. We’ll also be there telling the stories that matter!

Great Britain & Northern Ireland has competed in every Winter Olympics since the first games in 1924. It’s won a total of 34 medals at the Winter Games, 12 of them gold including the women’s Curling last time in Beijing. During the ‘Covid’ Games of 2022, Team GB sent 50 athletes across snow and ice sport, winning a further silver in the men’s Curling. Skipper Bruce Mouat and his team will be back for gold in Cortina! We also have big hopes for medal success in Skeleton & Bobsleigh, Ice Skating with Lilah & Lewis and the Snowboard and Ski stars from GB Snowsport

LISTEN to Team GB Chef De Mission (and reigning Olympic Curling champion!) Eve Muirhead :

After financial disputes and pandemic related complications, the NHL (National Hockey League) ice hockey stars from the USA and Canada are allowed to compete in the Winter Olympics for the first time in 12 years. Finland are the reigning champions from Beijing! Former teenage star Chloe Kim could become the first ever woman to win three Olympic golds in the snowboard halfpipe. Russia and Belarus athletes will also compete as neutral again following the invasion of Ukraine but this could be the last time that happens. It’ll also be the first Olympics for newly appointed IOC President Kirsty Coventry.

Anything but Footy will be there!
