Times Radio - Boat Races
We approached Times Radio with the idea of doing commentary on the Boat Races after Channel 4 were awarded the TV rights. The traditional Thames tideway tussle between two of the greatest institutions in this country would be the perfect fit their brand. Fortunately, they agreed and became official partners of the Boat Races with exclusive radio commentary. On Easter Saturday 2026, the dark blues finally beat Cambridge women while the light blue’s domination over Oxford in the men’s race continued for another year. Michael Weadock was the lead commentator on Times Radio, alongside former winners and Olympic champions Charlie Elwes and Imogen Grant, after John Cushing, who’d previously won a Radio Academy Award for coverage of the Boat Race for LBC, produced preview content, interviews and montages. Digital listening figures increased 25%, on that afternoon, showing once again live sport and Anything but Footy’s production of it is a winning combination for commercial radio in the UK!
